Genetic Variation and its Role in Post Traumatic Headache
11:00 AM - 11:10 AM
Professor Lyn Griffiths BScHons, PhD is a medical researcher from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Australia with expertise in human gene mapping and molecular genetics. She has been studying the genes involved in common human disorders for several decades. Professor Griffiths established and heads the Centre for Genomics and Personalised Health, QUT where her research focuses on identifying the genes involved in neurological disorders, including migraine, concussion and stroke. Outcomes from this research have been developed into precision medicine testing, with her laboratory undertaking regular accredited diagnostic testing for six human neurogenetic disorders including FHM, EA2, CADASIL and epilepsy. Professor Griffiths and her team use DNA sequencing approaches to identify genes and genetic variants involved in the development of neurological disorders, with a particular focus on migraine genetics. Her research is supported by competitive grants and industry funds and has appeared in >430 peer-reviewed international publications.
Nisha Malhotra
Resident
NYU Langone Health
The American Headache Society First Contact – Headache in Primary Care Program: Impact on Attendees’ Knowledge and Awareness of Migraine
11:10 AM - 11:20 AM
Dr. Nisha Malhotra is a neurology resident at NYU Langone and is currently applying for headache fellowship. She is passionate about improving access to care and addressing health disparities to improve timely diagnosis and treatment of neurologic conditions.
Catherine Chong
Career Scientist
Mayo Clinic
Prediction of Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events (MACE) in Patients with Migraine using the Mayo Clinic Electronic Health Record
11:30 AM - 11:40 AM
Catherine Chong, PhD is a neuroimaging scientist who uses structural and functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging techniques to elucidate the pathomechanism underlying headache disorders. It is her goal to identify clinical and neuroimaging biomarkers that predict headache recovery and treatment response in patients with migraine and post-traumatic headache.
Juliana VanderPluym
Mayo Clinic - Arizona
Forecasting Migraine Attacks: A Machine Learning Approach Based on Clinical Symptoms and King-Devick Test
11:40 AM - 11:50 AM
Juliana VanderPluym, MD, FRCPC is an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology within the Division of Headache at the Mayo Clinic Arizona. She received her Doctor of Medicine with Special training in Research from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and also completed her residency training in Pediatric Neurology at the University of Alberta. She is a fellow of the American Headache Society and a member of the AHS DEI Taskforce. Her research interests include headache education, health disparities, novel migraine treatments and non-headache phases of migraine.
Alexandra Schwartz
Yeshiva University's Ferkauf Graduate School Of Psychology
Migraine as a Risk Factor for Cardiovascular Events in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA)
11:50 AM - 12:00 PM
Alexandra M. Schwartz is a doctoral candidate at Yeshiva University's Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology. She is on the neuropsychology track, pursuing a PhD in clinical psychology with a health emphasis.
Elizaveta Mangutov
Gradaute Research Assistant
Washington University in St. Louis
Development of PACAP and PAC1 targeting therapies for the Treatment of Opioid-Induced Medication Overuse Headache
12:00 PM - 12:10 PM
Elizaveta Mangutov completed her bachelor's degree in 2019 and is currently a fifth-year Ph.D. candidate at Washington University in St. Louis in Dr. Amynah Pradhan's lab. Specializing in basic research using mouse models, she focuses on opioid-induced hyperalgesia, migraine, and migraine aura. In her investigative efforts, she delves into the potential role of pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP) and its receptor in these conditions. Additionally, she actively explores the delta opioid receptor as a promising therapeutic target.
