Auditing Epic Care Link - risks and controls that should be evaluated
Session Synopsis
Epic Care Link is a secure, web-based application for connecting private and referring physicians, skilled nursing and long-term care facilities and their staff to your organization's electronic medical record. The tool provides read-only access to your patients’ health record. This includes hospitalizations, specialist’s referrals and other real time clinical data for physicians and staff without full Epic access. Ensuring controls are in place for both Epic Care Link and Epic Hyperdrive will ensure patients that their information is secure and protected and in line with HIPAA privacy standards. This presentation will discuss one organization's roll out of Epic Care Link and the challenges encountered during the launch of Epic and Epic Care Link throughout the organization.
Biography
Mary Jane Schroeder CIA, CHIAP, CRMA, CICA has been with Main Line Health since April 2016 as the Associate Vice President,Internal Audit and has over 25 years of AUDITING experience in both Healthcare and transportation industries. She holds a Bachelors of Science from Villanova University. Prior to joining Main Line Health, Mary Jane worked for MedStar Health in Baltimore, MD, Crowe (formally CHAN Healthcare Auditors) in California and also worked for Providence Health and Services in California. She is a member of the IIA and AHIA where she served as a member of the AHIA Board of Directors from January 2014 to December 2020 and was the AHIA chair in 2019.
