Beyond The Hype: Practical Understanding and Auditing of AI in Healthcare
Session Synopsis
The topic of AI seems impossible to avoid these days, whether in an internal audit publication or just in daily life. There is a lot of hype out there, but what does a healthcare internal auditor really need to know at this point? This session will cover some of the primary current use cases of AI in healthcare along with corresponding key risks and audit considerations. Whether you have already audited AI and want to go deeper or are just starting to ask how you can incorporate AI risks into your internal audit plan, you will walk away with some practical ideas for next steps.
Biography
Ryan Willhite is currently the Executive Director of Internal Audit and Enterprise Risk Management for UnityPoint Health in West Des Moines, Iowa, having begun this role in August 2019. Prior to that, he worked for Crowe Healthcare Risk Consulting where he managed the internal audit functions for the Iowa and Fargo divisions of what is now CommonSpirit Health, a national not-for-profit health system. He also served as the national accountable care subject matter lead for Crowe, developing content and resources that were used across all healthcare audit clients. He began his internal audit career working at the Sprint corporate headquarters in Kansas City.
Ryan holds the CIA, CISA, CFE and CRMA certifications as well as the Cybersecurity Fundamentals and Cybersecurity Audit Certificates. He has spoken and written on various auditing and healthcare topics throughout his career, including in the AHIA New Perspectives Journal, and currently serves on the AHIA Membership and Awards Committee.
