    Orofacial Pain

    8:55 AM - 9:20 AM

    Presentation Description

Perhaps when orofacial pain of non-dental origin is mentioned, temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are the first category of disorders that come to mind. However, it is important to remember that orofacial pain disorders go beyond TMD and include other disorders of diverse etiology and pathophysiology. Orofacial pain is complex, and the interrelated anatomy and physiology of the craniofacial and oral region structures adds to the intricacy of these disorders and may present to the clinician, a diagnostic and a management challenge. In this session, we will discuss in a case presentation format, different orofacial pain disorders and their differential diagnosis that may be not as obvious in the medical setting, highlighting the importance of the dialogue between medicine and dentistry and the orofacial pain specialist partnership.

    Presentation Description

Why do some patients with migraine experience symptoms such as heart palpitations, syncope, lightheadedness, temperature intolerance, nasal stuffiness, eye watering, and facial flushing? How can this impact treatment options? Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) shares similar mechanisms with migraine and is commonly encountered in the clinical setting. This engaging presentation will review autonomic dysfunction as it relates to migraine, including pathways that contribute to vascular effects within the meninges and the rest of the body. We will review practical treatment options that are clinic ready to help your patients in need. You don't want to miss this!
